Liverpool FC Stadium Tour and Pre Man City Thoughts
By guest writer: Ashley Williams (@A_Will83)
Today I’ll be travelling up to Liverpool from London. A number of thoughts going through my head. How great will the stadium tour be as a Liverpool fan? Remembering Hillsborough during the weekend and before kick off. Then the big game itself.
During the tour I’ll get to see loads of memorabilia and history as well as:
- Touch the world famous ‘This is Anfield’ sign
- Visit the Anfield Press Room
- View the Home Team dressing room
- Take a seat in the Manager’s dug out
All of that has been a dream of mine to do. I’m absolutely hyped up and buzzing with excitement for this whole weekend. I’ve been to Champions League nights and in the city in 2005 for the Champions League final. This is a different kind of energy. It’s another thing to tick off my list as having done. I’ll be on such a high after the tour tomorrow.
Then Tomorrow will arrive and it will start with mixed emotions. Top of the table clash. If Liverpool win this game the title is in their hands. Only a slip up would prevent them lifting the trophy at the end of the season.

All games this weekend will start 7 minutes late as a sign of respect to the 96 who lost their lives at Hillsborough. A moment that puts even a football match into perspective. As a Liverpool fan for the last 27 years I cannot wait to be there to pay my respects and to show solidarity for all of the families who are still fighting for justice after all this time.
Finally, the big game. Liverpool at home, on a winning streak and unbeaten in the last 13 games at home. The last game lost at home was back in September. City are a completely different kind of beast. Quality oozing from all over the pitch. Liverpool have demolished teams like Everton and Arsenal at home this season and will need another quick start. If they grab a goal it will force City to open up more as they’ll be chasing the game. This could leave Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and possibly Raheem Sterling with the chance to run one on one against Martin Demichelis. Liverpool’s weak point would seem to be their full backs. Jon Flanagan is a good young full back but pace is not his asset and he seems to tug opponents back by the shirt a lot. Glen Johnson at right back seems like he always has another couple of gears he can move up to but always seems to try and perform at his bare minimum to not get criticised. Luckily City’s pace isn’t out wide, it’s up top with Sergio Aguero through the middle with the power of Yaya Toure.
How fit is Aguero? He’s coming back from injury. Will he start? Can he have an impact? Will Toure be the same influence or can the Liverpool midfield shut him down as they have so well all season against other teams? It’s going to be a nail biter that’s for sure but the atmosphere at Anfield should be the best yet this season.
