Liverpool FC – Rodgers SACKED!

Reports are coming in that Liverpool Boss Brendan Rodgers has been sacked by Fenway Sports Group, presumably in response to his miserable run of results and poor performances.

The Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce confirms that the 42 year-old Northern Irishman was relieved of his duties following today’s draw at Goodison Park. Rodgers took the hot seat at Liverpool following the sacking of Kenny Dalglish after the scot guided the team to two cup finals, winning one of them.

After coming so close to winning the clubs first championship in the 2013/14 season, many expected the side to build on that and to push on. Expectations were made higher by the sale of Luis Suarez for £75m. The money, was largely wasted on substandard players, and Rodgers was only able to manage a sixth place finish. Things didn’t improve after that.

Following a further spend of £80m at the end of last season, the teams fortunes have failed to improve. Despite a change of backroom staff and perceived improved player recruitment including Christian Benteke, James Milner and Danny Ings.

No mention has been made as to a successor, but in my opinion, this has already been arranged. Whether this will be German Jürgen Klopp, Carlo Ancelotti or more recently, Frank de Boer only time will tell.
