Liverpool vs Everton Match Preview

Vinolin Naidoo gives us his thoughts on the game of the weekend, as Liverpool host Everton at Anfield. WIll big Sam work his magic at his latest rescue project over on the blue side of the park?

Match Preview

The next installment of the Merseyside Derby will take place at Anfield on Sunday. Liverpool come into this encounter with both form and momentum on their side. Having demolished Spartak Moscow in the Champions League midweek, the Reds have scored 12 goals in their last two encounters. A win on Sunday will cement the Reds place in the top 4. Everton come into this encounter with a new manager in Sam Allardyce. He began his tenure as manager with a 2-0 win over Huddersfield at Goodison Park last Saturday.

Last Meeting: Liverpool 3-1 Everton (01 April 2017)

The last meeting between both sides ended in a 3-1 win for the Reds at Anfield. Goals from Sadio Mané, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi gave Liverpool a comfortable win. That resulted proved to be a key win in the race for the top 4.

Team and Injury News

Alberto Moreno picked up a foot injury midweek and is out for this match. Joel Matip is also missing. Jordan Henderson should be recalled to the starting lineup after sitting out the midweek win. Nathaniel Clyne is still a long-term injury casualty.

Everton will recall Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Ashley Williams to their starting 11 after all three sat out their dead rubber Europa League win against Apollon. Everton however, will be without Leighton Baines, Seamus Coleman, Yanick Bolasie, Ross Barkley and James McCarthy.

Predicted Lineup

LFC (4-3-3): Mignolet, Alexander-Arnold, Klavan, Lovren, Robertson, Wijnaldum, Henderson, Coutinho, Mane, Salah, Firmino

EVE (4-1-4-1): Pickford, Kenny, Holgate, Williams, Martina, Gueye, Lennon, Davies, Rooney, Sigurdsson, Calvert-Lewin

Prediction

Liverpool 3-1 Everton – With Big Sam as the manager you can expect Everton setting with two banks of 5 behind the ball for this encounter. Liverpool will have to be patient at first but once that first goal is scored, expect the floodgates to open. I can’t see Big Sam and his men stopping the Reds on Sunday and the only way the Reds could be stopped is if the game is called off due to the poor weather that is affecting England at the moment.
