Liverpool F.C. – Week 37 Review – Last Chance Saloon

A late win against the Magpies, an injury to Salah meant hands over the eyes. A midweek trip to Spain, ended in disappointment and pain. Liverpool head into the final week, with mountains between them and what they seek. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, another week reviewed at the world’s favourite football club Liverpool F.C.

The Good

The win against Newcastle was summed up perfectly by Jürgen Klopp. His Liverpool side had to take on a strong Newcastle side that refused to lay down. The Magpies came from behind twice before succumbing to a late Divock Origi header in the 87th minute.

“It’s brilliant and so deserved, a tough game against a very powerful team, they’re physically stronger than us and we had to fight. We did that and I couldn’t be more proud.”

A head injury to Mo Salah left Liverpool fans with their heads in their hands. A lengthy delay to treat the Egyptian who sustained concussion was horrid to watch. The fact that the team went on to win shows true grit from a team that has fought toe-to-toe with firm favourites all season. The fact that the winning goal came from the much-aligned Origi, made the occasion even more remarkable.

With Manchester City defeating former boss Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City 1-0 at the Etihad last night, this will go down to the wire. Should Liverpool not win the title, we as fans can only be proud that we’ve run Citeh so close.

The Bad

Losing to Barcelona in the Champions League semi-final first leg. To be fair to Liverpool, there wasn’t much between the two sides. However, the main difference was obviously in the finishing.

Liverpool certainly had enough chances to win the game and even hit the post late on. The main reason why this will be a short GBU this week is because I’ve got beer, crisps and prayers ready for the game which kicks off in less than two hours from now.

I do feel though that if Liverpool can get a goal or two in front, then this really will be game on. This tie ain’t done yet!

The Ugly

They say it’s not over until the fat lady sings. She’s stepping on the stage right now and doing her warm up! It’s an understatement to say that Liverpool have made it tricky for themselves as they’re no longer in control.

The table never lies and the seven draws amassed by Liverpool will come to haunt them come Sunday at 16:45. If they do win, this must be the first team to have won the league with such a large amount of drawn games.

I hope the team does it, I really do. However at the same time I fail to see why Klopp has sat on the embarrassment of riches that is Daniel Sturridge and Xherdan Shaqiri at times when they would definitely have been able to offer something. I guess luck has played a part too. The forward runs of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have been missed as well as young Joe Gomez with knee ligament and broken leg injuries respectively.

Let’s see what happens. This isn’t an Ugly affair by any stretch of the imagination, but Liverpool have only themselves to blame should they remain in second place come Sunday night.
