Liverpool F.C. – The Good, The Bad and The Ugly – Gameweek 34
The Reds win on the south coast, another three points to boast. The captain is now a doubt as injury takes him out. In midfield all is not lost, with the emergence of a new boss. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Another week reviewed at the world’s favourite football club, Liverpool F.C.
The Good
Maintaining the winning habit with a comfortable win against Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex stadium. Despite the hosts scoring with the score line at 0-2, Liverpool were worthy winners on the night with a 1-3 victory.
Two early goals from Mo Salah and Jordan Henderson put Liverpool firmly in the driving seat. Another accomplished performance from Naby Keita, demonstrates why Liverpool were correct to shell out the reported £40m fee. The Guinean kept the Reds ticking alongside Gini Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson.
The hosts gave a good account of themselves, however and pulled one back through Leandro Trossard as half time neared. Neco Williams struggled in an unfamiliar position at left back and was substituted at half time after picking up a yellow card. His replacement Andy Robertson, put a lovely cross in for Salah to register his second of the game.
“It’s not important for me, I’m not interested in any of this but I want to win football games…”
Liverpool are on course to finish on a record points tally should they win three of their remaining four games. Jürgen Klopp however, was his usual pragmatic yet focussed self. “It’s not important for me, I’m not interested in any of this but I want to win football games” asserted Klopp when pressed on the topic after the game.

The Bad
Captain Jordan Henderson has picked up a knee injury and is doubtful for the Burnley game tomorrow. The 30 year-old has been in superb form this season, especially in the latter half when he has been asked to play more as a holding midfielder.
His driving presence will be missed if it turns out that he cannot feature in the next match or worst luck – longer. Klopp gave an update after the game and his initial assessment. Didn’t sound good at all “I don’t know how serious it is,” said the boss, before adding “but I know it will not be nothing. We have to wait.”
So, wait we must. From what I saw, I don’t expect Henderson to be around for the next couple of games. In the worse case, the rest of the season.

At the time of writing, Klopp confirmed the captain will miss the rest of the season.
The (Sm)Ugly
Despite the injury to Henderson, the recent performances of Naby Keita should provide more than adequate cover.
Klopp told reporters during his Burnley pre-match press conference, he feels Keita is now (privately) settled and can now focus on his football.
This is clear to see in the way he has played recently. He has performed with courage and confidence and the thought of him, Wijnaldum and Fabinho forming the midfield trio for the remaining games, is a comforting one. Could be worse!

On This Day…
In 2015, Jordan Henderson was confirmed as the club’s captain following the retirement of legendary skipper Steven Gerrard. This will go down as one of the best decisions from former boss Brendan Rodgers before he was replaced a few months later. A choice the in coming manager has upheld since joining.
