LFC 20/21 – The Good, The Bad The Ugly – Gameweek 10
While Reds fans demand more, the other contenders are just as poor. Things were even worse still, losing at home 2-0. The manager remains vexed, injuries leave him feeling hexed. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Another week reviewed at the world’s favourite football club Liverpool F.C.
The Good
Seeing that the other title challengers are just as bad or as unfortunate as Liverpool. The Reds lost a hard-fought-for lead against Brighton and Hove Albion, when Andy Robertson committed a poor challenge in the area to concede a penalty. Pascal Gross converting with after a previous spot kick was spurned by Neal Maupay.
Sadio Mané also had a goal disallowed following the usual VAR farce. This time he was marginally offside to be fair. However the drama surrounding it does little for it’s credence.
The 1-1 final score was probably fair in a game that was as pleasing on the eye as a Mike Tyson right hook. Fortunately for Jürgen Klopp and his men, the other teams around them in the league were unable to capitalise on the unexpected result.
With Chelsea drawing with Tottenham, and Leicester losing to Fulham, Liverpool’s result turned out to be less costly than it might first have appeared.

The Bad
Losing at home to Atalanta 0-2 in the Champions League. The Reds got basically what they deserved in this match as represented by the score. A big fat ZERO! A thoroughly disappointing performance from the entire team. Most notably in my opinion from Neco Williams.
It was no coincidence both Atalanta goals came from crosses from their left – the Liverpool right and on both occasions Williams seemingly woefully badly positioned.
Mo Salah on his return from COVID isolation was playing as if he was still on his own as he spurned a couple of golden opportunities. The fact that Liverpool failed to register a single shot on goal through the entire game says it all. Despite Klopp making four substitutions to try and turn the tide, it all came to nothing.
Still after all, the Reds remain top of Group D and on course to qualify there, despite Ajax soundly beating FC Midtjylland 3-1. The Dutch outfit will travel to Anfield next week where only a win will stop Klopp’s boys finishing top.

The Ugly
The concerning injury situation. James Milner on his return to the side from injury, again left the field after picking up a hamstring strain.
Klopp criticised BT Sport and Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder after the game. The 12:30 Saturday kick-offs being of particular irritation to him, stating that playing on a Saturday and Wednesday was dangerous for his players.
“It’s silly enough to fall into that trap and now he has the headlines he wanted.”
The German did however backtrack when it became clear that he’s no more a victim than anyone else. He does have a point to be fair. I just think he makes a bit more of a meal of it that the other managers.
One thing I did agree with, was that 15 or 16 of the 20 Premiership clubs are in favour of increasing substitutes to five. Yet sweet fanny Adam had been done.
