LFC 21/22 – The Good, The Bad And The Ugly – Gameweek #2

The team impressed in a physical test. An ex-Red disagrees with what the boss sees. Two games played, The Reds are unswayed. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Another week reviewed at Liverpool Football Club.

The Good

Winning the first home game of the season 2-0 against Burnley. Goals from Diogo Jota and a peach from Sadio Mané were enough to send the Clarets packing. Mo Salah also scored but his effort was chalked off for offside.

Jürgen Klopp saw fit to hand youngster Harvey Elliot his Anfield and Premier League debuts. The 18 year-old didn’t disappoint with some Intelligent passing and a maturity beyond his years. His pass to pick out Trent Alexander-Arnold’s for Mané’s goal was such an example.

My star though, was Alexander-Arnold. What a player. The boy is back to his best.

This was a game that tested the Anfield teams ability to put up with some rough treatment being doled out by Sean Dyche’s men. In the end however, the men in red had simply too much quality for their visitors.

The Bad

Jürgen Klopp voiced his concerns at some over-zealous challenges from the Clarets and demanded more protection from referees. However, former LFC player Peter Crouch had other ideas.

If Burnley come here and play Liverpool at their own team they get beat four or five

Peter Crouch

The former striker agreed with the approach of Dyche’s men. ‘I disagree with Jurgen Klopp. I didn’t see anything,’ said Crouchy. ‘If Burnley come here and play Liverpool at their own game, they get beat four or five”

In fairness, I have to agree with the “roboter” Crouch. Burnley don’t have the technical qualities of Liverpool so you can’t expect them to turn up like lambs to slaughter. Fact is, every team has to play to their strengths.

If Liverpool want to be champions, they’ll habe to get used to it. An intentionally controversial point from the boss in my opinion, especially with Chelsea as their next opponents.

The Ugly

Not withstanding the above, there were some hefty challenges flying in during the Burnley game. I’m not saying I’m against it. It’s just worthy of comment.

Young Elliot was singled out for some Individual treatment but to be fair, he took it in his stride. It’s fair to say this isn’t the only game when the 18 year-old will be targeted out for special ‘attention’. Let’s face it, it’s a pert of the game. Hard but fair in most cases.
