LFC 21/22 – The Good, The Bad And The Ugly – Gameweek #5

Defeating Milan shows the Reds still can. A win against the Palace, the old poisoned chalice, means Liverpool are top and we know it. But why doesn’t the table show it? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Another week reviewed at Liverpool Football Club.

The Good

I’d say this was defeating AC Milan 3-2 at Anfield for Liverpool’s opening game of this season’s Champions League campaign.

Liverpool have been dealt a very tricky hand in this season’s competition. Athletico Madrid and FC Porto await them in addition to Wednesday’s illustrious opponents and the Reds will have earned their money if they progress from this group to the knockout stages.

Despite taking the lead through a Fikayo Tomori own goal within 10 minutes, ended the first period 1-2 down after conceding two goals in as many minutes as half time approached.

Mo Salah made up for missing a first half penalty when he tapped in Divock Origi’s centre just after the break. Jordan Henderson thundered home the winner after 69 minutes to leave the visitors deflated. The Kop elated.

The (Not) Bad

A hard-fought 3-0 win against yesterday bogey team Crystal Palace. The Anfield crowd has been treated to two fantastic performances against two quality teams this week.

Goals from Sadio Mané, Salah and a screamer from Naby Keita turned around some early Palace pressure to establish Liverpool’s dominance.

The Ugly

A nice problem to have some would say, but sitting atop the Premier League. If only for a day until Chelsea beat Tottenham to go top. But why are Chelsea top and not Liverpool? You may ask. Well the answer, although lame is an administrative one.

You see, both Liverpool and Chelsea, for the first time in the history of top flight football in England, have recorded exactly the same results after five games.

Therefore, when this happens, both teams are deemed to be first. Ladies and gentlemen, we have in fact joint first place at this point in the season. The premier league explain it here.

So despite what others may claim, they are both first. Chelsea only lead because the table is always shown in vertical order. In layman’s terms, this is alphabetical order!
