LFC 21/22 – The Good, The Bad And The Ugly – Gameweek #7
A five-star show at Porto. Fair do‘s to the Blues, the Reds were lucky not to lose. LFC fans get a feeling of doom, with big money heading doon the toon. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Another week reviewed at Liverpool F.C.
The Good
The performance against Porto in the Champions League second group stage match. Following the belter against AC Milan at Anfield, Liverpool showed their title credentials with a thumping 1-5 win against FC Porto at the Estadio do Dragao.
A brace for both Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino in addition to one from Sadio Mané was enough to inflict another drubbing on their hosts.
Full time!

Six points from two games for the Reds after they thrash their hosts at the Dragao.

Mehdi Taremi pulled one back for Porto in the 75th minute with the score at 0-3 but Firmino’s late goals confirmed the superiority of Jürgen’s Klopp’s side and quashed any far-fetched hope of a comeback from the Dragons.
Special mention has to go to Curtis Jones. A fantastic performance from the academy graduate. His two assists don’t even go close to showing what a great game he had. I think we might have a gem here, Geoff!
The (Not) Bad
The 2-2 draw against Manchester City. Of course three points would have been preferred. However, Pep Guardiola sent his men out with fire in their bellies. In all fairness, Liverpool we’re lucky to go into the break on level terms.
However, football as they say, is a game of two halves and this match proved as much, if indeed, any proof was needed. Liverpool we’re a different side in the second half. Perhaps some choice words were said at half time. Whatever happened, it done the trick.
If we played only the second half, I’d have liked to have won the game but with the first half, a point was fine
Jürgen Klopp
The Reds took the lead twice but were pegged back each time, resulting in the draw. A bore it certainly wasn’t and Liverpool go into the international break unbeaten.
A contender for Goal of the Season from Mo Salah looked to have won it for the hosts, but for Kevin De Bruyne to strike late on, to set up a nervy finish.
🗣 Pep Guardiola on Mo Salah’s goal “I’ve never seen anything like it. He has to be the best winger the league has ever seen and the best player in the world at the moment. No one is doing it like him.”#LIVMCI #Pep #MoSalah #PL pic.twitter.com/O8ffuog264

“Someone’s 0’s gotta go!” The old boxing MC used to say. For now that someone is Liverpool. When? Hopefully no time soon.
The Ugly
The apparent lack of back bone from a section of the Liverpool support. News broke this week that the sale of Newcastle United to a Middle East consortium was back on after being vetoed by the Premier League.
Clearly some of the Liverpool faithful aren’t very happy at the prospect of Newcastle becoming the latest club to be steamrolled by riches from Black Gold. In addition to Manchester City and Paris St. Germain.
I’m genuinely afraid of that Newcastle takeover, with them up there and abouts we will have chelsea, city, united and Newcastle all outspending us while we have to stick with FSG

Personally, I don’t fear this. Why should it make any immediate difference? For a start, they’ll need a new manager because Steve Bruce is clearly not up to the task. Secondly if and when that happens, the club will need at least a couple of years in order to really get established.
If Rome wasn’t built in a day, then Newcastle United will take a good while. In any case, I’d like to see the Liverpool fans get behind the owners. OK, they’ve made the odd howler here and there but still their good intentions for the club and willingness to invest are without question.
Yes, they may be accused of being greedy on occasion, but who in their position isn’t?
Fact is, until FSG arrived, Liverpool we’re just pi&%ing in the wind and stumbling from one catastrophe to the next. At least for now their is some continuity and stability. Two things money simply can’t buy.
