LFC 21/22 – The Good, The Bad And The Ugly – Gameweek #8

The Reds take the plaudits for swatting the Hornets. No money, no honey and should the star man go, it won’t be funny. World “great” shows his true face, with a blatant show of sour grapes. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Another week reviewed at Liverpool Football Club.

The Good

The 0-5 dismantling of Watford at Vicarage Road on Saturday. The Reds were without Alisson and Fabinho, who are in Madrid preparing for Tuesdays Champions League match with Athletico. Their return from international duty with Brazil was deemed too late to allow them to feature on Saturday. In fact, as it turns out they weren’t actually needed anyway.

Liverpool ran out easy winners 0-5 following a masterclass performance against the hosts in new manager Claudio Ranieri’s first game in charge.

A hat-trick from Roberto Firmino plus one from Sadio Mané and another stunning individual goal from Mo Salah left Watford totally deflated. Their visitors were simply on another level in this game.

The stats tell a totally one-sided story for this fixture. 19 shots on goal from Liverpool compared to just one from Watford is really all you need to know.

Despite Jürgen Klopp describing Salah as “the best player in the world right now”, special mention goes to Firmino for an outstanding Man of The Match display (in my view despite Salah’s top-notch goal). In the right place at the right time every time. That sums up the Brazilian’s game this week.

Top drawer stuff and the first time the three first-choice Liverpool strikers have scored in the same match since the 7-0 trouncing of Crystal Palace last year.

The Bad

Rang Abbas Issa, agent of Mo Salah flew into Liverpool on Saturday morning to watch his player destroy Watford in a 5-star performance.

If you were in Issa’s shoes you’d have to feel very confident ahead of any negotiation at this moment. Knowing you’ve got arguably the best player in the world and a queue of clubs waiting to snap him up if LFC don’t play ball, is a good position to be in I’d say.

There is a rumour flying around that Real Madrid are interested in doing a swap which, in my opinion, is just nonsense. I wouldn’t even go so far to say this is agent talk. Perhaps it could be but I’m not sure that kind of threat is really required. Liverpool know what they have in a Salah or, at least I hope so.

The fact that Issa is in Liverpool is good news. There’s obviously something to discuss. The reported £500,000 per week wage demand should be paid as it represents the going rate for a man of Salah’a talent. The question is: do Fenway Sports Group share that view?

Nail-biting times. I would like to see the club keep the Egyptian. However, it wouldn’t be the first time the club has let go of players of similar stature. The name Suarez comes to mind.

The Ugly

Lionel Messi ignored Liverpool when asked who he believed could win the Champions League this season.

Frankly, this sums up why when Barcelona lost to Liverpool in the Champions League semi-final at Anfield, all he could do about the situation was cry.

Perfectly sums up why Christian Ronaldo, despite playing for Manyoo (twice now!), will always be regarded as the best player of his generation.

Absolutely sums up why Argentina will not and cannot win a World Cup with him as their captain.

Need I say more?
