LFC 21/22 – The Good, The Bad And The Ugly – Gameweek #30
Three points put the Reds briefly on top, winning away in the big league non-stop. No sign of action or bans for awful and disorderly fans. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Another week reviewed at Liverpool football club.
The Good
The 2-0 win against Watford that put the Reds top of the Premier League. If only for a few hours. Goals from Diogo Jota and a last minute penalty from Fabinho saw Liverpool briefly leapfrog Manchester City to take top spot.
When Jota bravely headed in to convert Joe Gomez’s perfect centre after 22 minutes, it looks as if it was going to be a very long afternoon for former Reds’ boss Roy Hodgson and his Watford side.
However, the Hornets proved worthy opponents and came close to salvaging a point on a couple of occasions from this David and Goliath contest. However, when Juraj Kucka wrestled Jota to the ground in the penalty area with full time approaching, referee Stuart Attwell had no option but to point to the spot after a VAR review.
Another 3 massive points on the return from the international break! ✊🔴 I'm signing off for the day, but the team will be back from 8am Monday morning to help with your queries. Have a great rest of your weekend Reds! 🔴- Kev#LIVWAT #LFC #YNWA pic.twitter.com/LYf8OjFlpc

The Bad
Frankly nothing bad about cruising to a 1-3 dismantling of Benfica in the Champions. League. Perhaps you could say Ibrahima Konaté missing the ball for Benfica’s only goal but that would be unfair and overlook a superb performance from the young Frenchman.
Capped off with his first Liverpool goal. The future of the Reds defence is looking very bright indeed.
Sadio Mané added the second following a sweeping move from the men in yellow. Despite the hosts pulling a goal back, a late – and thoroughly deserved Luis Diaz goal put this first-leg tie beyond doubt.
Special mention goes also to Trent Alexander-Arnold for his most exquisite of exquisite passes that landed on Diaz’ head to assist Mané. Plus, arguably the best performance from Naby Keïta in a Liverpool shirt. When this guy is fit, he’s unplayable.
After the game against Benfica Liverpool have now won 8 consecutive away games for the 1st time in our entire history. #Liverpool #LFC #BENLIV ❤️ pic.twitter.com/0z4NkqvPsG

The second leg at Anfield next week should prove to be a formality. As decent a team Benfica are, I’m not sure they can overcome a packed Anfield on a midweek European night. Never say never of course, but this Liverpool side are simply too strong.
The Ugly
Terribly ugly was the behaviour of the Benfica fans who threw things at the Liverpool players through the night at corners, during the game on Tuesday. Lighters and other objects that looked like small poles or sticks pelted Diaz and Andy Robertson at corners. Disgraceful behaviour.
Great finish from Diaz. Benfica fan reacts by throwing a stick at the ex-Porto man #BENLIV pic.twitter.com/UbxWPkQUCK

What astounds me about this is that there is no mention of any action being taken by UEFA despite the incidents being shown on camera during the game and a complaint by the Spirit of Shankly supporters union. Sadly the people at Route de Genève 46, the UEFA headquarters are probably too busy counting money to be arsed with confronting that.
Tomorrow afternoon, we have the game of all games. Liverpool visit Manchester City in the Premier League. Game on!
