LFC 22/23 – Charity Shield Winners!

A win over the Blues, starts the season with good news. Debutant Núñez finds the net to prove he’ll be a success yet. Another great campaign? Likely a two horse race again. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. The season opener reviewed at Liverpool Football Club.

The Good

Winning the Community Shield for the first time under Jürgen Klopp with a 3-1 victory over Manchester City.

It was nice to see Trent Alexander-Arnold get onto the score sheet. Mo Salah looks rejuvenated and happy. Not to mention of course the first competitive goal for new signing Darwin Núñez.

I have to say, I was very impressed with the way the team went about their work yesterday. The mentality of the team and body language is that of a group of players who believe they’re going to win. I’m massively looking forward to the start of the season and without being biased, I’d fancy Liverpool to come out on top this season.

Perhaps this isn’t a barometer for the season ahead according to both managers. However, I’m sure they’d both rather have won!

The Bad

Bad news for the rest of the Premier League… Darwin Núñez is here! Klopp expressed how impressed he was with new Liverpools new signing following his performance yesterday.

And yes, it’s clear that Núñez will only get better as he settles into the team. When I look at Erling Haaland and the effect he had on the game yesterday, I believe Liverpool have secured the services of a far better player. This may indeed be reflected in the fee, but the fact that the club have been able to attract such a player speaks volumes.

Of course, it’s early days and the expectations need to be tempered with a huge dose of patience. However, I’m we’ve been able to replace the departed Sadio Mané with such a huge talent. Núñez, at 23 and with his best years most definitely ahead of him, gives Reds fans a huge dose of confidence for the future. Speaking of Mané…

The Ugly

Not Ugly per se, but Sadio who? Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane summed up Liverpool’s transition from former striker Sadio Mané to debutant Núñez when he quipped: “Who’s that Mané?” A very good question!

It’s easy to forget the contribution that the Senegalese international made during the Klopp era so far, and to replace him – especially with a talent as remarkable as Núñez, shows just how well the club is operating at this moment.

In addition to the signings of Fábio Carvalho and Calvin Ramsay, we fans can only be excited for the season to come. In actual fact, the seasonS to come! For the hear and now, it’s looking as if it’s going to be a two-horse race… again.
