LFC 22/23 – The Good, The Bad And The Ugly – Gameweek #3
Again the Reds concede first, performances going from bad to worse. Getting done by your biggest foe, has to be the biggest blow. Is there a reason, to believe this season? The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Another week reviewed at Liverpool Football Club.
The Good
Nothing really. Perhaps you could say the likes of Harvey Elliot and Fabio Carvalho look as if they will be very important players in the future. However, there seems to be a huge void until then if tonight’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United was anything to go by.
To be honest, I had the feeling that Liverpool were going to lose. Simply because they’re not at the races right now. Too many injuries, ageing players in key positions and a habit of conceding first in competitive games, which goes back over the last nine games now. 10 if you include this defeat.

So frankly, I just want to move on from this week and see how we get on in the next games. This is already shaping up to be a cracking season. Arsenal, Brighton, Brentford and Leeds all recording a very impressive run of form right now.
The Bad
Liverpool’s current injury situation. Again, it looks as if the season will be hampered by injuries. It’s only early doors but already, the team has 10 players out injured or in the case of Darwin Núñez, stupidity.
The current injury list consists of:
- Thiago Alcantara – Thigh
- Diogo Jota – Thigh
- Joel Matip – Groin/Hip/Pelvic
- Caoimhin Kelleher – Groin/Hip/Pelvic
- Curtis Jones – Calf/Shin/Heel
- Naby Keita – Other
- Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – Thigh
- Ibrahima Konate – Knee
- Calvin Ramsay – Other
- Darwin Núñez – Moment of madness
So as things stand the team is depleted in most areas. Thiago, Jones, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita go some way to explain why the midfield is severely lacking at the moment. One could also blame the lack of a younger more dynamic replacement for Gini Wijnaldum but that’s another discussion.
The Ugly
The sight of James Milner remonstrating with Virgil van Dijk. Not pleasant viewing at all!
The Dutch international, arguably the best central defender in the Premier League possibly Europe, seemed anything but as he was found wanting for both goals.
However, to be fair, the entire defence was all at sea for both goals so it’s a bit unfair of Milner to single him out. That said, perhaps it was a tactical thing that went wrong. It’s very difficult to say without knowing how they were instructed to operate.
In any case it didn’t look good. On one hand credit Milner for his passion and winning mentality. On the other hand, it must have filled United with glee to see their opponents in disarray!
Everyone Liverpool fan is James Milner right now 😜#MUNLIV #EPL2022 pic.twitter.com/jI9OAsCIzG

Hopefully that’s the last we see of this situation. However, given the team’s recent performances, I wouldn’t bet against it.
