LFC 22/23 – The Good, The Bad And The Ugly – Gameweek #13

League stage ends with a win and a defenders return brings a grin. Shock on a huge scale as the club is now up for sale. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Another week reviewed at Liverpool Football Club.

The Good

Finishing the Champions League group stage with a 2-0 win against a strong Napoli side. Liverpool we’re able to get revenge on the Italians after they humbled the Reds in Naples in the reverse fixture.

The hosts showed their Italian visitors things would be different this time around. Liverpool we’re made to work for their win, though. The breakthrough came after 85 minutes when Mo Salah put the Reds in front.

Later in injury time, Darwin Núñez doubled Liverpool’s advantage when VAR ruled his header had crossed the line.

Liverpool have qualified for the knockout stage now, equal on points but four goals behind this season’s surprise package.

The (Not) Bad

For what seems like ages, there really isn’t anything (football-wise anyway) to complain about.

Liverpool went to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium at the weekend and came away with three precious points courtesy of the 1-2 score line. Quite an unlikely outcome considering the Reds’ recent form.

A brace from Mo Salah (who I sold in my FPL team – typicall), put the game beyond their north London hosts. The result did slightly flatter Liverpool though, it must be said.

Tottenham gave Liverpool a real run for their money. They were denied twice by the LFC woodwork. So, one can understand their feeling hard done by. Harry Kane’s 70th minute effort meant they’re visitors had to dig deep for their points… and they did!

Special mention had to go to Ibrahima Konate who’s presence and calm at the back made many Liverpool fan ask: Joe who?

The Ugly

Owners Fenways Sports Group have decided they “would consider new shareholders” at his time.

“(FSG) Remains fully committed to the success of Liverpool”

The Boston -based outfit went on to say that whatever they decide will be in the best interest of the club as they remain ” fully committed to the success of Liverpool, both on and off the pitch.”

An interesting situation indeed. It is of course no secret that FSG have been receiving offers from various interested parties for a number of years now but nothing suitable has materialised.

Clearly, the reason why this statement has suddenly come up must be because they’ve received interesting enquiry. There’s no smoke without fire.

To be fair to John Henry and co, this is probably the best time to sell. Since they purchased club in 2010, they have seen their £300m investment soar in value. To some extent they’d be stupid not to!

Watch this space…,!
