LFC 22/23 – The Good, The Bad And The Ugly – Gameweek #21

At last a change in the news, getting one over the Blues. Players coming back could reduce the flak. Big money enquires, but owners’ bluff backfires. The Good. The Bad, and The Ugly. Another week reviewed at Liverpool Football Club.

The Good

Of course, the 2-0 win against the noisy neighbours on Monday night. Goals from Mo Salah (yes… Mo Salah!) and Cody Gakpo were enough to see off the Blues from across the park.

The relegation-threatened Blues, were again second best of two against their illustrious neighbours. This was the Liverpool of old. A performance of pressing, men getting forward and playing words a smile on their faces.

“it felt like us, it looked like us,” after the Reds”

Jürgen Klopp was complimentary about his players once. For once it was pleasant to hear what the Boss had to say about the performance of his players. “it felt like us, it looked like us,” said the 55 year-old manager in his post match.

Despite ugly scenes late on as tempers and frustrations boiled over, it was LFC who came out on top. The first goal was a classic counter attack… 18 seconds after the visitors had struck the Liverpool upright.

The second, another counter attack, this time, new signing Gakpo was on hand to tap in Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pinpoint centre. His account for Liverpool, now opened and hopefully, there will be plenty more deposits to come.

One swallow doesn’t make a summer as the old saying goes and it’s the same for a win and a season respectively. Let’s see where we go from here. There’s a big month coming up for Liverpool now.

The (Not) Bad

The sight of Diogo Jota, Virgil van Dijk and Roberto Firmino in the bench on Monday night. The trio have been sorely missed. Poor defending, feeble in attack. Those three should make a huge difference.

Granted, van Dijk has come in for some criticism for a couple of performances this season, but when you see the Joe Gomez and Joel Matip show, then the stability of the Dutchman is definitely needed.

They’ll all need as few games to get their sharpness back but for now, there’s definitely light at the end of the tunnel… considering their recent green, though, let’s just hope Said “light” isn’t a train!

The Ugly

The big bucks going to Manyoo instead of Liverpool as takeovers loom. News has broken that the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) have made a takeover bid for Manchester United after talks with Liverpool failed.

This, in my opinion, is definitely Egg on the faces of Fenway Sports Group, who claimed toward the end of last years that they were looking to sell the club. It was likely that the Qataris were the interested party.

According to the Express, FSG wish to sell because they cannot compete with the current resources of Manchester City and (evidently now) Manyoo. Yet, they weren’t willing to sell the club to Qatar, insisting instead in only a part sale. Naturally, the QIA wanted full control for their £2bn valuation.

On one hand, I can accept that FSG feel that amount doesn’t warrant full control because they feel it’s worth more. Hence they’ve gone public to see if they could get better offers. A move which at this point seems to have backfired.

It’s not looking good for LFC right now and FSG, I believe the club needs to find new owners in order to keep up with the others. Watch this space.
