LFC 22/23 – The Good, The Bad And The Ugly – Gameweeks #27 & #28
Losing to City wasn’t pretty, the Chelsea draw was really a bore. Football needs more than a glance, to stamp out unthinkable chants. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, another well reviewed at Liverpool Football Club.
The Good
As bad as it may seem, the 0-0 draw with manager-less Chelsea was at least an end to a miserable run of results, albeit in miserable fashion. In a game where it seemed as if both sides were more concerned with not losing, rather than winning. The draw was arguably the best result for both teams.
Jürgen Klopp made a number of changes to the side that lost so toothlessly against Manchester City. Kostas Tsimikas and Joe Gomez were preferred to Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold respectively. Gomez at right back showing that he can be an able deputy when called upon.

Despite Chelsea having the lion’s share of possession, Liverpool fans will at least be happy not to have recorded another reverse. What we won’t be happy with, is the fact that the game showed how far behind the team has slipped.
The Bad
The 4-1 defeat at the Etihad simply underlined how much the team has struggled and likely will struggle for the remainder of the season. The early goal from Mo Salah was simply a false dawn, intended to decieve the gullible that are Liverpool supporters.

Ten minutes later the collapse began. Julian Alvarez standing in for the injured Erling Haaland secured the equaliser for the hosts. At half time it was 1-1 but of course, there was worse to come…
Almost immediately after half time, Kevin De Bruyne extended their lead. By now, their visitors were in disarray. Ilkay Gündogan (53) and then Jack Grealish (74) completed the job leaving Liverpool’s players all at sea.
A thoroughly disappointing performance from Jürgen Klopp’s boys and a result thoroughly deserved from Pep Guardiola’s. Suffice to say really… a thoroughly disappointing weekend.
The Ugly
There have been reports this week that the Premier League has consulted police in an effort to rid the game of the trend of so-called Tragedy Chants.
During the 0-0 draw with Chelsea there were chants being made by some of the their supporters relating to the 97 Liverpool supporters who lost their lives as a result of the Hillsborough tragedy back in 1989.

The unsavoury practice has had fans chanting about the Munich air disaster against Manchester United, relating to the plane crash in 1958 wherein the United team of the day was decimated by the death of eight of their players. During the Manchester City game, there were also chants about the Heysel disaster back in 1985 when 39 fans lost their lives during a European Cup game between Liverpool and Juventus.
It saddens me to say that I doubt the footballing authorities will be able to do much in these circumstances. The problem obviously runs deeper than football and it should be a matter of police not to mention political policy to stamp this behaviour out.
