Liverpool FC: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly – EPL Gameweek #3

10-man Liverpool make the fans grin, after a late brace from Darwin. The next to go could be the club Talisman, and the captain’s rant will mean a lengthy ban! The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly at Liverpool FC. Gameweek 3 review.

The Good

Without doubt the 1-2 victory against title pretenders Newcastle Untied. The Reds fell behind in their now customary fashion when Trent Alexander-Arnold’s mistake gifted the hosts a chance to take the lead.

To make matters worse, Virgil van Dijk was dismissed for an innocuous challenge, leaving Liverpool with 10 men for the remaining hour of the game. The Reds captain was clearly livid with the decision (see the Ugly) and at one point, was restrained by boss Jürgen Klopp as he left the pitch.

Darwin Núñez entered the fray on 76 minutes and scored twice in the last 10 minutes (well… last 16 I’d you count the additional time), to hand the visitors an unlikely yet, deserved victory.

The Bad

Mo Salah is on his way to Saudi Arabia. Saudi Pro-league outfit Al-Ittihad are rumoured to be preparing and £80 million bid for the Egyptian striker. Despite claims from Jürgen Klopp, the Liverpool have no intention to sell. I find it difficult to believe that Liverpool would be able to refuse a bid of that size for a player of Salah’s age.

It will be interesting to see how this unravels, but frankly, if a bid is made (Jürgen, Klopp says at this point no bid has been received), then I cannot see how FSG, being the hard-nosed business people that they are, will turn down the opportunity to make a 100% profit or an asset they bought six years ago. And who, at the same time, has been a massive generator of value for them.

The Ugly

Virgil van Dijk had too be restrained by boss Jürgen Klopp as he set off down the tunnel following his red card yesterday.

The new club captain was both surprised and furious at referee John Brooks after he received his marching orders for a rather clumsy – if not risky tackle on Alexander Isak.

As things stand now, van Dijk is set for a three-game following the incident. Frankly, I don’t see him having the same kick as Alex Mac Allister, so the squad depth will be tested so soon in the season.
