Liverpool FC: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly – EPL Gameweek #4
The Reds out the Villans to the sword, after a new recruit comes on board. The Saudis target our no. 10. It’s rejected, but they’ll surely come again. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly. Another week reviewed at Liverpool Football Club.
The Good
This is the emphatic, 3-0 win against Aston Villa at Anfield yesterday. The Reds took an early lead when Dominik Szoboszlai’s deflected shot, ended up in the visitors net.
The Reds went into the break 2-0 after a Darwin Núñez shot cannoned of the crossbar and rebounded in off the unfortunate Matty Cash.
The second half was a less entertaining affair, but Mohamed Salah put recent transfer speculation behind him when he fired in Liverpool‘s third from close range.
The win puts Liverpool in third position after four games. However, regular readers will know that I don’t really take any notice of the Premier League table until at least 10 games have been played.
So far so good for Liverpool. Decent performances from Alex McAllister, and of course, captain Trent Alexander-Arnold also played well in his occasional inverted fallback position only to be substituted midway through the second half after with a suspected hamstring problem.

The (Not) Bad
Liverpool secured the signing of Bayern Munich’s Dutch midfielder Ryan Gravenberch in the closing hours of the transfer window. The Merseysiders agreed a fee reported to be around £34m.
The Dutchman had been mooted as a possible recruit since the end of last season. However, the trail seemed to go quiet as Liverpool were intent on chasing more expensive, and unlikely candidates in Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavea.
As the end of the window drew near, word broke that Liverpool had turned their attention back to their original plan. Bayern Munich having relaxed their earlier stance on the player – that he was still in their first team plans.
The Ugly
Saudi Arabian side Al Ittihad’s pursuit of Mo Salah. The Pro League outfit made a verbal offer amounting to some £150m for the 30 year-old Egyptian.
The offer was of course rejected out of hand by Liverpool. Personally, I believe the offer was rejected more from the stand point of not being able getting a replacement, with virtually hours of the transfer window remaining.
Jürgen Klopp is adamant the player is not leaving. That said, and looking at histrionics, there’s a high likelihood the Reds’ no. 10 will end up somewhere closer to home in the not to distant future… after Liverpool have tied down a replacement behind the scenes.
