Liverpool FC: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly – EPL Gameweek #8
The Reds were back with ease, winning against St. Gilloise. The boss makes opinion sway, when asking for a replay. Yellow cards galore, as the Reds stumble to a bore draw. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly, EPL and FPL Gameweek #8 reviewed at Liverpool Football Club.
The Good
Liverpool returned to winning ways on Thursday with a 2-0 victory over Belgian side Union St. Gilloise. Ryan Gravenberch got off the mark for his new club when he stabbed home the rebound following St. Gilloise’s ‘keeper failure to hold a Trent Alexander-Arnold shot.
Diogo Jota was on hand to secure the win for the Reds in what turned out to be a tricky second half confronted with stubborn and spirited opposition.
Jürgen Klopp’s team remain unbeaten in the Europa League after two games. So far so good…
The Bad
How the situation has developed after the “VAR gate“ as I’ve come to call it. This came to a crux with Jürgen Klopp calling for the game to be replayed. The thing is, this isn’t bad per se due to the way in which Klopp spoke. He was very clear, very fair and articulate.
The thought of the game being replayed is frankly, unthinkable. Klopp rightly referred to “every team wanting one…” which is exactly the point.
Frankly, I’m glad the whole thing is gone. Not resolved unfortunately, but no longer dominating the headlines and we can move on toward finding constructive solutions.
The Ugly
Liverpool’s performance against Brighton and Hove Albion this afternoon. If ever there was game that was obvious the team would get nothing from, it was this one.
As usual, sloppy play gave the initiative to their opponents. This time, Virgil van Dijk’s dangerous pass caught Alec Mac Allister sleeping and allowed the impressive Simon Adingra to slot past a stranded Alisson.
Liverpool clawed their way back into the game after a quick fire brace from Mo Salah. The game was crying out for another goal from Liverpool to make it safe.
With Ryan Gravenberch hitting the bar and sloppy defending, Brighton were able to equalise late on from a set piece. Overall a very scrappy affair with more yellow cards and fouls than decent football if the truth be told.
The result leaves Liverpool in fourth spot a point behind Man City on 17 and three behind Tottenham and Arsenal who are both on 20 points.
