Liverpool: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly – EPL Gameweeks #15 & #16
Defeating the Eagles and the Blades, a striker outed the rest in the shade. The boss shows another side, but in the EPL, there’s nowhere to hide! Two Goods, The Bad, and The Ugly at Liverpool FC for EPL and FPL Gameweeks 15 & 16.
The Good
The first good: Liverpool came away from Selhurst Park with three points in the early kick off today with a 1-2 win. As with Liverpool, and particularly at Selhurst Park, the points didn’t come without a good amount of toil and of course a little controversy sprinkled in for good measure.
Liverpool fell behind to a controversial penalty after 57 minutes, when referee Andy Madley, stopped play and awarded a spot kick for an incident that happened a minute and a half earlier – Jarell Quansah clattering into Jean-Philippe Mateta in the box. The Reds now on the back foot, pressed forward in search of a leveller.
Jordan Ayew saw red after 75 minutes. The resulting numerical advantage saw Mo Salah equalise a minute later.
Cue super-sub Harvey Elliott to wrap up the win with a long-ranged shot in the first minute of 10 additional time. “Here nobody’s in for the Oscar for best football game or whatever… this is about three points, we got them and we’re more than happy!” Too true.
The second good: The second Good was Liverpool winning away at Bramall Lane on Wednesday. Not the most enthralling of games it has to be said. However, every hole is a goal as the saying goes so I for one aren’t complaining!
A close-range Virgil van Dijk finish and a late Dominik Szoboszlai effort was enough to give Liverpool the three points.
Most notable talking points were Trent Alexander-Arnold showing a few inches of crack… and a hefty challenge by Darwin Núñez on Jayden Bogle that went unpunished by the ref.
Something that caused quite a discussion on the X-Twitter social media platform during the week. Personally I felt Núñez was lucky to get away with it but hey…
The (Not) Bad
Mo Salah has scored 200 goals for Liverpool. The Egyptian King as he’s been dubbed by the Reds faithful, becomes only the fifth Player at the club to achieve this fete. Previous players to have reached the landmark are:
• Ian Rush
• Roger Hunt
• Gordon Hodgson
• Billy Liddell
The £40m purchase from Roma in June 2017 has taken only 327 games to reach this milestone. A phenomenal effort. Congratulations Mo. Thoroughly well deserved.
The Ugly
Jürgen Klopp showed his worse side after the win over the Blades when he accused the Amazon TV presenter Marcus Buckland of being ignorant because he made a small joke about Liverpool’s then upcoming early kick off against Crystal Palace.
The Presenter started by referring to the fixtures as “… you’re favourite kick off time…” in a small joke and in reference to Klopp’s public rebuttal of Liverpool continuing to be selected for the early Saturday fixture. The Reds boss however didn’t see the funny side of it. Despite Buckland apologising, Klopp responded by calling him “ignorant”.
Again the Liverpool boss being needlessly prickly. Sometimes it’s best to just leave things be. However, we all know the 6X year-old former Dortmund boss can be rather an emotional type. Let’s move on… again!
