Liverpool: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly – EPL Gameweek #21
A performance to boast on the south coast, and a strikers injury may cost more than most. The ex-skipper’s transfer mess and in FPL, we’re ahead of the rest. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly at Liverpool FC for EPL and FPL Gameweek 20.
The Good
Liverpools convincing 0-4 win against Bournemouth yesterday. The a reds stick to their task on the south coast after a sticky first period to record an emphatic win and go five points clear at the top of the Premier League.
Liverpool pool to the lead through Darwin Núñez just after half time and another in added time at the end the game after Diogo Jota also secured a brace to maintain his good run of form.
Again, Jürgen Klopp was able to shuffle his pack to devastating affect in the Vitality Stadium to nullify a stubborn home side.
The Reds are now five points clear at the top despite wins from Arsenal and Man City, the latter of whom could close the gap to three points if they win their game in hand.
Stand out performances from Alex Mac Allister, Ibrahim Konaté, Connor Bradley filling in at right back and Luis Diaz showed their hosts a lesson in controlling a game. The likes of Joe Gomez
The Bad
Salah’s injury whilst away on international duty with Egypt. The mercurial striker went down in their 2-2 AFCON draw with Ghana on Tuesday and is now set to mos the next two games.
Word is that he will return to Liverpool for treatment and could return to the competition, should his fitness allow and Egypt reach the semi-finals.
So far, the team are doing just fine without him. Let’s hope that continues…!
The Ugly
Jordan Henderson’s transfer shenanigans. We’ve all heard the news in the last week or so regarding Jordan Henderson‘s transfer from SPL league outfit Al Ettifaq to Ajax Amsterdam.
For those that have been living under a stone for the last six months, the former Liverpool captain moved to Saudi Arabia after securing a contract rumoured to be in the region of £700,000 per week.
However, following the move and playing only a handful of games in the Saudi pro League, Henderson has decided to return to Europe in view of (cited family problems and apparently he has not settled in the region.
My personal opinion is that I think he was very brave to make the move in the first place. As a society, we are all very quick to cast blame and aspersion when somebody charters new waters in order to, as he said at the time, bring about change. This is far harder to do than to sit on the sidelines waving your banner.
In the meantime, he has apologised for upsetting the LGBTQ plus community a move, which I believe is unwarranted.
We can all speculate as to why he went, but it’s apparent that he has received a fraction of the amounts reported in salary.
Therefore, at least from what I know of our former captain I would say, his intention was more to help bring about a change in attitude in a region that is trying to become more integrated with the rest of the world – at least in a sporting sense.
