Liverpool: The Good, The Bad And The Ugly – EFL Cup & EPL Gameweek #26

The boys leave it late but it was worth the wait. The plucky Hatters left in tatters. More injury woes and the list continues to grow. In FPL with low scores everywhere, we won the cup so I don’t really care! The Good, The Bad and The Ugly at Liverpool FC for the Carabao Cup final and EPL / FPL Gameweek 26.

The Good

Winning the League cup for the 10th time. An under-strengthens Liverpool side overcame a determined Chelsea to win this season’s Carabao Cup.

Theo victory came courtesy of a Viegil van Dijk header in the second half of extra time. That was the second time the captain had hit the net, with his earlier effort being ruled out for offside.

Liverpool FC

The Not Bad

The 4-1 win against Luton Town at Anfield on Wednesday. The Reds had to work extremely hard for this win.

Jürgen Klopp’s injury-ravaged team fell behind after 12 minutes and went into the break on the back foot. However, Virgil van Dijk was on hand to equalise with a trademark header from a corner. The lead was extended two minutes later when Cody Gakpo headed in Alex Mac Allister’s centre.

The gulf in quality was clear as Luton spurned chance after chance to get back into the game. Luis Diaz Put the game beyond reach, scoring at the ninth time of asking in a busy shift. Harvey Elliott rounded off the scoring with a late effort after disappointing in the first half.

All-in-all a good result from the Reds against plucky opposition. But for more composure and quality in front of goal from the visitors, we would have seen a very different outcome.

Still, a win is a win and another three points on the board.

Anfield Edition

The Ugly

Yet another injury sustained to a Liverpool player. This time the unlucky Red was Ryan Grabenberch who was stretchered off following a harsh challenge from Moses Cairo during the League Cup final.

Later, Wataru Endo was seen leaving on crutches with a brace on his left leg. The injury list goes from bad to worse. Hopefully some of the currently injured players can make it back for the Forest game on Saturday
