Liverpool FC: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly at Liverpool FC – International Break

Despite conceding two, the Legends make a legends’s dreams come true. A race row brews, but arguably with the wrong news. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly at Liverpool FC.

The Good

The Legend 4-2 against Ajax on Saturday. In what turned out to be just as much a tribute match to former England Manager Sven Goran Eriksson, the former players made heavy work of the Ajax side.

The likes of Edgar Davids and Musampa, as well as a cameo from former player Ryan Babel who represented both clubs, ensured this would be no easy ride for LFC.

A late second half come back with goals from Gregory Vignal, Djibril Cisse, Nabil El Zhar and Fernando Torres secured victory for the hosts after a tough game.

The (Not) Bad

Liverpool and Anfield making former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson’s Dream come true as he managed the Reds for the Legend game.

The lifelong Liverpool fan is sadly suffering from pancreatic cancer and was given around a year to live. Since breaking the news at the beginning of the year, the former Lazio manager made it known of his love for Liverpool. A joy passed down to him from his father.

It was lovely my to see him realise his dream and the flow of messages from former England players. Not to mention the 69,000 crowd that attended the match.

The Ugly

Former Liverpool director of recruitment Stuart Webber, has been caught up in a race row after claiming four black players, including former Red Raheem Sterling could “potentially” have ended up in jail had it not been for football.

The former Liverpool employee was giving an interview about climbing Mount Everest in order to raise funds for disadvantaged kids in Norfolk when he made the claim.

Naturally, this has led to condemnation from the players families and Troy Townsend from the Kick It Out organisation. Personally, I think this is a bit much.

Webber has used a claim that many a black sportsman have made in the past. Does this make him a racist? At worst, a bit naive, but a racial? Definitely not, for me.

The continued speculation regarding the future of current Bauer Leverkusen boss and former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.
