Liverpool FC: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly – EPL Gameweek 29

A winner in front of the Kop, sends the Reds back on top. Despite wanting a familiar face, an outsider is still in the race. Nine games to go, and we’re in with a shout you know! In FPL I stop the rot, moving up to second spot. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly at Liverpool FC for EPL and FPL gameweek 29.

The Good

This of course is the narrow victory over Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield yesterday. It was a hard-fought win for Jürgen Klopp’s men. As is usual, this didn’t go without incident.

The Reds fell behind to a thundering shot from former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck in the third minute. The Reds then found themselves on the back foot while the whistle-happy David Coote.

Luis Diaz was on hand to fire Liverpool level when he pounced on the loose ball that came off a Brighton defender. The game was all squatter at the break.

The second half was all Liverpool. The hosts got their reward after 65 minutes when Mo Salam controlled Alexis Mac Allister’s pass to put the Reds in the lead. Luis Diaz thought he’d scored his second of the game when he found himself just offside from a Counterattacking move.

Brighton had chances to equalise from Lewis Dunk and former Reds favourite Adam Lallana saved by Caoimhin Kelleher and shooting wide respectively. Liverpool managed to control the remainder of the game to secure a big win.

Anfield Edition

The (Not) Bad

Ruben Amorim is now the favourite to replace to Red place Jürgen Klopp after it was confirmed from various outlets that the fans’ first choice (let’s remember there was no official confirmation from the club of interest), Xabi Alonso will stay at Bayern Leverkusen next season.

It does seem though, as if the former Portuguese international has been considered all along. His name was mentioned shortly after Jürgen Klopp announced his departure and despite the fans’ clamour for the Alonso, his name hasn’t left the discussion. Brighton and Hove Albion boss Robert di Zerbi also appears to be under consideration, but I’d be surprised if FSG plumped for him.

I’m intrigued to see how this all pans out. I’m not betting man, but if I was, my y would be on Amorim.

Anfield Galaxy

The (Sm)Ugly

Liverpool fans have reason to be cheerful today with the Reds remaining in flat place following the 0-0 draw between Manchester City and Arsenal at the Etihad in yesterday’s late kick off.

There’s still nine games to go, but I’m glad Liverpool are top and not having to chase for once! Liverpool welcome Sheffield United to Anfield on Thursday, whilst Arsenal and Manchester City play Luton Town and Aston Villa respectively.
