Liverpool FC: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly – Gameweek 37
Another prodigal son returns, as the teams lead crashes and burns. We could have asked for more, but we have to settle for a draw.
The Good
Signing Julian Ward back to the club. The former Director of Football left the club following a year in office having replaced Michael Edwards. Mr Edwards has now returned to the club in a senior capacity and has acted swiftly to bring his former successor back into the fold.
The reorganisation, despite being the bane of employees around the world, seems to be going swimmingly for FSG. The only missing part of the puzzle more is to confirm Jürgen Klopp’s replacement in Arne Slot.
There were reports claiming that the Dutchman was locked in talks over bringing some of his back room staff in. Hopefully this will be resolved soon.
I spoke with a taxi driver whilst in Rotterdam during the week and he was off the impression than everything is done and dusted. I hopes this is the case and Liverpool don’t end up with a large dose of egg on their boat races!
The Bad
The result against Aston Villa yesterday. The Reds got into the lead, being 1-3 ahead.
However, Unai Emery despite being somewhat excitable is also as very clever manager and whilst trailing, he still believed his players could get something from this fixture.
We need no further proof of his conviction.
The Ugly
Cue the entrance of 20 year-old Colombian Jhon Durán. His 3-minute brace was enough to give Villa a glimpse of hope. His first from an error by Alexis Mac Allister was followed by the luckiest of lucky goals to set up a nervy finish for their visitors.
Liverpool regained their composure to see out the remainder of the game without further incident and earn their single point.
