The Good, The Bad ‚ The Ugly at Liverpool FC: Preseason Weekly Update I

The new man starts on the 1st of June, and hopefully we’ll see some action soon. The rumour mill starts again with claims about a number 10. it was already five years ago that we got number six and stole the show.

The Good

New Boss Arne Slot has officially started work as Liverpool’s new manager. The official title is actually head coach, which describes the role that the Dutchman will play in the new Liverpool set up under new boss Michael Edwards.

The 45 year-old takes over from Jürgen Klopp after three successful years at Feyenoord and the Reds fanbase will be watching with interest to see how things develop.

Slot’s playing style is very similar to Klopp’s high intensity, high line and high counter-press game. But as the saying goes, the devil is in the detail. It’s obvious the former Sparta Rotterdam midfielder will have his own ideas for the finer details and I for one, am super-intrigued to see what Liverpool 2.1 will look like.

Slot will start proper for preseason in July but no doubt there are discussions going on in preparation therefore.

The (Not Bad)

The traditional transfer window rumour mill has already started and the most credible so far is that regarding Crysencio Summerville.

Man-in-the-know Fabrizio Romano has recently indicated via Twitter X (my new name for it), that Liverpool remain interested in the player and talks regarding a transfer are expected to begin shortly.

The main competition comes from Chelsea and seeing as they’re currently without a coach, following the ill-advised sacking of Mauricio Pochettino, it’s unlikely any aspiring player would choose such a turbulent environment.

Let’s see what happens. I’m a huge admirer of Summerville. He impressed when Liverpool played Leeds and he would make a very exciting addition to the project, in my humble opinion.

The (Sm)Ugly

A bit of nostalgia for this weeks Smugly, with the official Liverpool FC Twitter account recalling virtually five years to the day when Liverpool lifted their sixth Champions League title.

The club recalls in June 2019 Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 with a penalty from Mo Salah, followed by a well taken goal from the then club talisman Divock Origi to put the game beyond doubt late on, and the Reds fans into raptures.
