The Good, The Bad & The Ugly – 2024/25 Gameweek #13
Week thirteen was one to be seen, Madrid and City, shown no pity. Whilst Mo had plenty of listeners, in FPL, I’m taking no prisoners!
The Good
The Good this week is, without doubt, the 2-0 win against Manchester City at Anfield yesterday. An aggressive Liverpool side were too much for their opponents from the other end of the East Lancs Road. A superb pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold to Mo Salah, who assisted Cody Gakpo to tap in Liverpool’s first was a sign of things to come for Pep Guardiola’s men.
despite Man City‘s pressure, they did not have a shot on goal until the 39th minute. Midway through the second half Liverpool extended their lead when Luis Diaz was brought down by Man City standing goalkeeper Ortega.
Man of the moment Mo Salah was on hand to duly dispatch the penalty to set up a tight finish. Guardiola was seen signalling ‘Six‘ to the travelling fans to indicate the six Premier League titles that Manchester City have allegedly won (or bought) during his tenure. The 115 charges of financial misconduct remain unanswered.
The (Not) Bad
Well, for the Not Bad this can only be the 2-0 win over Champions League title holders Real Madrid at Anfield on Wednesday night.
This rampant Liverpool side was too much for their illustrious opponents. Their will to win and intensity was too much for Los Blancos to resist.
Stand out performers were Conor Bradley who executed a perfectly time to tackle on an unsuspecting Kylian Mbappé as the French forward headed towards the Liverpool goal.
Ibrahima Conte was also immense in defence alongside Virgil Van Dyke. Goals from Alex Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo gave Liverpool a relatively comfortable win.
Many an observer would have expected Real Madrid to put up more of a fight on the night, but ultimately that was not to be. Many would point to the absence of Vinicius Junior or Caravalho at right back, but ultimately, Liverpool simply wanted this result far more than their illustrious rivals.
Liverpool now had this bizarre 36-team table with five wins after five games.
The Ugly
The Ugly this week is the continuing row between Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher turned pundit, and Liverpool’s presumably outgoing striker Mo Salah.
After the victory over Manchester City the Egyptian sort to answer comments made by Carragher earlier in the week after Mo discussed his contract situation with the club.
In my opinion Carragher was perfectly right in pointing out that what is most important at the moment is the club the team and the pursuit of silverware, all of which come before one man’s contract negotiations.
Notwithstanding the fact that Mo Salah has been an absolutely superb servant to the club, this does not entitle him to put pressure on the club in such a way.
Still, on the other side of the coin, we could also take the perspective that if Mo Salah wanted out of the club, he would not be making these comments.
The Egyptian clearly loves the fans and the fans love him as he mentioned after the match yesterday and in all honesty, who could dispute either.
