Liverpool vs Wolverhampton Wanderers – Match Preview

Seven points clear.

Another tough test out of the way.

Liverpool’s draw in a hot tempered Merseyside derby, whilst not extending their lead at the top to a considerable nine points, has seen them edge closer to the end goal.

That end goal, of being Premier League champions for a second time, will no doubt encounter more bumps along the way, but the point gained at Goodison Park may well prove to be a mighty valuable one come the end of May.

Wolverhampton Wanderers provide the next test for Arne Slot’s table toppers this Sunday at Anfield. (2pm GMT)

Although the visitors are just above the drop zone they have individuals to hurt the Reds, especially on the counter attack.

Mattheus Cunha, as Slot mentioned in his pre match press conference on Friday morning, will be the one to watch for the Midlands outfit.

Cunha, capable of creating and scoring, will be the Wolves’ star the title favourites need to pay specific attention to.

Stopping Cunha will go a long way to ensuring the Kop will be celebrating more home points come 4pm Sunday afternoon.

Patience may be needed but this Liverpool side under Slot do not panic.

If a goal does not arrive  in the first half, the team and the Anfield crowd will need to remain calm, easier said than done in the heat of a title race.

The extra quality with the likes of Salah, Diaz and possibly a return to the starting eleven for Diogo Jota, should ensure Wolves go home empty handed.

With away games against Aston Villa and Man City following Wolves’ visit, three points are a must for the Redmen to maintain the gap at the summit of the Premier League.

Liverpool are likely to give a fitness test to Cody Gakpo after his knock in midweek at Everton.

Curtis Jones will be missing through suspension after his red card at the end of the derby match on Wednesday.

Joe Gomez and Tyler Morton will miss the game due to long term injuries

Liverpool likely line up :

Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson, Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, Salah, Nunez, Diaz.
