Aston Villa v Liverpool – Match Preview

If the Wolves game (mostly second half) is anything to go by, the last 13 games will come with a health warning to all Liverpool fans!Misplaced passes, no shots on target (again only the second half) and a general lack of urgency made the Anfield experience for those inside the ground, as well as those watching from afar no doubt, a very nervous experience.

But ……. A win is a win.

And the best teams do not play well all the time.

But they grind out wins.

The reds now move on to the next challenge.

Away on tomorrow at Villa Park, under the lights.

This fixture, rearranged because of Liverpool reaching the Carabao Cup Final in mid March, sees the Reds’ have the opportunity to extend their lead over Arsenal to 10 points.

Along with the weekend visit to Manchester City, this provides a real acid test for Slot’s men during this packed fixture list.

Aston Villa, although failing to beat 10 men Ipswich at home on Saturday, posses a plethora of options in attacking areas.

Ollie Watkins’ pace, allied with Morgan Rogers’ power and goal threat, are two notable threats to the league leaders.

The recent additions of Marcus Rashford and Asensio also give Unai Emery’s outfit much needed depth off the bench to change a tight game.

Liverpool will need to ride the storm of the Holte End, then make the most of chances that come their way.

A tight game is my prediction and one which hopefully Liverpool edge.

Curtis Jones is likely to come into the starting eleven after missing the game against Wolves through suspension.

Cody Gakpo remains doubtful with an ankle knock.

Liverpool predicted line up :

Allison, Alexander Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Tsmikas, Gravenberch, Macallister, Jones, Salah, Nunez, Diaz.
