The Good, The Bad & The Ugly – 2024/25 Gameweeks #30 & #31

The Blue in shackles despite their tackles, and a bad day against Fulham away. The day the Refs are mic’d up, standards will go straight up.

The Good

The return to winning ways after a less than spectacular last couple of results.

A second half goal from Diogo Jota was enough to give Liverpool the spoils in what was as expected, to be a hotly contested and competitive Merseyside derby.

Everton edged the first half with Beto hitting the upright and having an effort disallowed for offside. James Tarkowski was fortunate to escape a red card after an over-zealous challenge on Alex Mac Allister

The second half was all Liverpool as they controlled possession and thwarted their visitors attempts to get long balls behind their defensive line.

Overall a deserved win. Bragging rights duly restored.

The Bad

Losing 3-2 against Fulham at Craven Cottage on yesterday afternoon.

Liverpool took the lead through Alex Macallister‘s long-ranged effort. Then came a 15 minute spell where Liverpool conceded three goals and put themselves on the back foot.

If you ever needed an example of the recruitment work that lies ahead, you won’t get better than this. A goal from an Andy Robertson mis-placed pass, Virgin van Dijk muscled out by a guy half his size, and Mo Salah marked out of the game.

That kind of explained the goals that done Liverpool on Sunday. Luis Diaz’s goal was described as “… out of nowhere…” by the LFC TV GO commentator.

Need I say more?!

Standard

The Ugly

James Tarkowski‘s tackle on Alex Mac Allister in the Merseyside derby last week.

The Argentinian midfield was unceremoniously brought down by the Everton captain.

Again, the refereeing governing body came out with their late apology and acknowledgement, which is frankly as much use as a paper bucket!

The use of public mics in cricket and rugby must be adopted in n the Premier League if it is to continue to command and justify such high costs and its mammoth revenues.
