The Good, The Bad & The Ugly – 2024/25 Gameweek #32
The last-minute 2-1 win against West Ham at Anfield has been a testament to the team’s grit.
The Good
The Good this week is the last-minute 2-1 win against West Ham at Anfield yesterday.
The Reds took the lead through a well-worked effort from Luis Diaz, after Mo Salah turned his marker inside out when receiving Ibrahima Konaté‘s pass to tee up the Colombian with a perfectly weighted pass across the penalty area.
The hosts went into the break in total command. However, Graham Potter had other ideas and sent his men out to make life difficult for their opponents in the second half.
They got their reward on 86 minutes when their pressure forced Andy Robertson to put the ball into his own net. The Liverpool faithful could have been forgiven for thinking this was going to be another two points dropped… if not three lost!
Virgil van Dijk though, had other ideas, driving in Alex Mac Allister‘s corner to send the crown into dreamland.
The (Not) Bad
News broke this week that Liverpool duo Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah will both sign two-year extensions to their existing deals, which are set to expire at the end of this season.
The news brings to an end the long running ‘will they, won’t they‘ saga which has been running for the last 18 months.
The news must also come as a huge boost to Arne Slot who will need his two, arguably best players, to see the team through the next couple of seasons whilst he and the club identify replacements.
The (Sm)Ugly
For this, it will be the fact that Liverpool are now 13 points ahead of their closest rivals going into the last six games of the season.
The Reds need only six points in order to secure their record equalling and 20th top-flight league title.
